I knew it was a "B" school. Thank you! 16:33:28 From Kathy Gainor To All Panelists : Perfect question. As a woman of color, I have to deal with students’ biases about me. 16:35:43 From Casey Dexter To All Panelists : One thing I was just talking about with some faculty was this “ethic of transparency” and how their can be some built in privilege to that. For example, the tenure structure may privilege those with tenure to be more likely to take risks with their transparency whereas more junior faculty (who are closer in age to their students) may feel they need to set some firm boundaries to establish authority/legitimacy. I wonder what advice you would have for adopting this ethic of transparency for faculty that feel afraid to insert much of themselves into the classroom. 16:35:50 From ACUE : A few additional resources on inclusive teaching that may be of interest. 16:35:55 From Miguel Rivera To All Panelists : There is a study from UNM that shows that students are more likely to give negative evaluations to professors of color, 45% or more. 16:36:03 From ACUE : Recent blog post on Inclusive Public Speaking https://community.acue.org/blog/inclusive-public-speaking/ 16:36:17 From ACUE : From @Miguel Rivera: “There is a study from UNM that shows that students are more likely to give negative evaluations to professors of color, 45% or more.” 16:36:26 From Bill Woodson To All Panelists : In the context of the recent executive order issued by the White House that addresses diversity training, are there key phrases to use or to avoid that will help us be able to develop and deliver awareness of unconscious bias, microaggressions, and other important precepts, without running afoul of "forbidden" frameworks or terminology? 16:36:34 From Jasmine Tom To All Panelists : Thank you Darvelle! Much of what you said resonates with me as well. 16:37:55 From Dax Soule To All Panelists : Sorry to join late. I was teaching until now…. Hode (she/her/hers) : @Bill Woodson, per the FAQ Does Executive Order 13950 prohibit unconscious bias or implicit bias training? Unconscious or implicit bias training is prohibited to the extent it teaches or implies that an individual, by virtue of his or her race, sex, and/or national origin, is racist, sexist, oppressive, or biased, whether consciously or unconsciously. Training is not prohibited if it is designed to inform workers, or foster discussion, about pre-conceptions, opinions, or stereotypes that people—regardless of their race or sex—may have regarding people who are different, which could influence a worker’s conduct or speech and be perceived by others as offensive. 16:39:31 From Denise Melvin To All Panelists : how do you poll and survey students regarding how they feel about the course they are enrolled? would students be more likely to submit if it is offered as an anonymous submission? 16:39:54 From Kevin Kelly To Elizabeth Ruf(privately) : Thank you - good reminder! 16:40:08 From Kevin Kelly To Elizabeth Ruf(privately) : I will call her ASAP 16:40:25 From ACUE : If you missed our webinar on “Preparing an Inclusive Online Course,” you’ll find a recording and resources here: https://acue.org/webinars/inclusive-online-teaching/preparing-online-course/ 16:40:31 From Brandy Cowen To All Panelists : Do you have any advice on incorporating eliminating implicit bias in faculty involved in student application/interviews process to professional programs? 16:40:33 From Elizabeth Ruf To Kevin Kelly(privately) : Of course; I know these are more tactical and not super relevant for an admin.
