Holistic Student Support
Equip faculty with practical strategies to support learning and create environments where all students thrive.
Supporting the Whole Student
Equip faculty to meet students where they are.
Students enter every classroom with differing strengths, challenges, and ways of learning. When they feel supported, students engage more deeply, are more likely to persist, and achieve more.
When faculty integrate holistic support strategies into their courses, they reduce barriers to learning, create environments where neurodivergent students can thrive, and help students access resources before challenges escalate.
The Barriers Standing Between Students and Success
55%
of faculty report a lack of understanding of how to apply Universal Design Learning (UDL) in their courses.
1 in 7
students are neurodivergent, bringing diverse ways of thinking and learning to the classroom.
47%
of faculty and staff report having one-on-one conversations with students about mental health in the past year.
Reaching Students Through Intentional Practice
ACUE’s Endorsement in Holistic Student Support recognizes applied expertise in creating learning environments that support students’ well-being and address their varied learning needs.
Faculty gain practical strategies to support neurodivergent learners, connect students in distress with the resources they need, reduce barriers to access through open educational resources (OER), and design courses that minimize stress.
How Faculty Earn ACUE Endorsements
ACUE Endorsements build upon ACUE’s Certification in Effective Teaching and are earned exclusively through ACUE Commons, our community of practice that supports institutions in sustaining faculty growth through ongoing learning, collaboration, and professional development on timely topics in higher education.
Faculty earn points toward an Endorsement by engaging in Quick Studies—one-hour, self-paced learning experiences—along with expert-led events, and curated resources. The recognition is valid for one year, encouraging faculty to stay current as practices and conversations evolve.
This Endorsement prepares faculty to:
Reduce course-related stress by recognizing signs of student distress and connecting students with appropriate campus resources
Intentionally design courses to establish predictable routines, enhance communication, and reduce barriers for neurodivergent learners
Locate, evaluate, and integrate Open Educational Resources (OER) aligned with your curriculum to expand student access
