Welcome to the ACUE Community

Goldstein_Matthew_Resized-296x300I can clearly remember my first day of college teaching.

I was a graduate student and my department chair asked (directed!) me to cover a calculus course. The subject matter was not a problem, but I was poorly prepared to teach and, frankly, terrified.

The episode left a lasting impression and led me to some profound conclusions. First, I came to appreciate the power of good pedagogy and how excellent teachers change students’ lives. Second, and more importantly, I learned over the course of my career that great teaching can be developed.

Good college instruction has never been more important than it is today.

In my years as Chancellor of the City University of New York, I witnessed the radical transformation in higher education. Today, faculty carry an even greater responsibility to prepare students for success in the knowledge economy and a complex, interconnected world.

ACUE was founded to help. Our work is based on a simple, yet powerful proposition: Great Teaching Equates To Student Success.

In addition to ACUE’s Course in Effective Teaching Practices, this learning community is another way to connect with colleagues and refine your practice. In time, it will include forums, webinars, customized news feeds, and ACUE’s digital library.

This blog serves as the hub. Consider it your virtual faculty room—something I wish I had on my first day!
