Ms. Luxton is an Senior Operations Manager at ACUE. In her 20 years of experience in education, Luxton has served in administrative and instructional roles with a focus on development and administration of student success programs and instruction of Developmental English and College Readiness. Most recently, Luxton served as the Adjunct Faculty Development Coordinator at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois. In this role, she served as the Co-Facilitator of the college’s inaugural Effective Teaching Practices course with ACUE. Luxton observed firsthand the impact of ACUE’s course in the improvement of instruction; it was an ideal fit with her passion and work to maintain a culture of excellence in support of positive student experiences and outcomes, both in and out of the classroom. Luxton was inspired by the ACUE model and excited by the opportunity to join ACUE to work to further student success through effective instruction.
As an administrator, Luxton has experience in multiple areas of programming for student success. As Manager of the Academic Success Center at DeVry University’s flagship Addison Campus for 10 years, Luxton provided leadership for success programs on the campus while also serving in an instructional and resource role to faculty and students. She was instrumental in growing the campus tutoring center in support of new programs, especially students of Chamberlain University, which became a co-location at the campus. She grew the supplemental instruction program to support math courses within the university and at surrounding high schools, as well as the wet lab courses that were introduced as part of the nursing curriculum for Chamberlain University. She also served as Accommodations Coordinator for the Addison campus and its satellite centers, overseeing all aspects of student accommodations. Earlier in her career, Luxton taught Developmental Reading and Writing and served as Tutor Coordinator at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois. She began her career in education as Director of Education for a Sylvan Learning Center location in the Chicagoland area.
An Illinois native, Luxton earned an AA from Moraine Valley Community College. She earned a BA in English from Loyola University Chicago and holds a M.Ed. from National-Louis University in Wheeling, Illinois, with a focus on Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum and Instruction. Since 2000, she has held a Professional Educator License in Language Arts and English for the State of Illinois.
